JATIMTIMES - Bupati Kediri Hanindhito Himawan Pramana mendorong supaya kontes sapi Kabupaten Kediri bisa diadakan secara rutin setiap tahun. Dorongan itu disampaikan Mas Dhito saat meninjau dan menyerahkan hadiah bagi pemenang kontes sapi yang berlokasi di Lapangan Desa Wonorejo, Kecamatan Wates, Rabu (6/5/2026).
"Tahun depan harus bisa diselenggarakan lagi dengan euforia yang lebih besar. harapan saya ini bisa jadi kontes ternak terbaik di Jawa Timur," kata Mas Dhito.

Kontes sapi Kabupaten Kediri baru bisa digelar kembali tahun 2026 ini dan diselenggarakan selama dua hari mulai Selasa (5/5) setelah terakhir sebelumnya diadakan pada 2019. Kontes ini terbagi dalam tiga kategori utama, yakni sapi Peranakan Ongole (PO), sapi hasil persilangan inseminasi buatan (IB), serta kategori kereman ekstrem. Adapun dari 134 peserta di 26 Kecamatan yang mengikuti kontes tersebut, untuk kelas ekstrem bobot sapi terberat mencapai 1 ton 214 kg.
Menurut Mas Dhito, populasi sapi di Kabupaten Kediri menunjukkan trend yang membaik. Pada tahun 2025 populasi sapi di angka 216.886 ekor, naik dari tahun 2024 yang mana waktu itu di angka 214.715 ekor.
Dengan populasi sapi yang mencapai ratusan ribu ini, untuk menopang program ketahanan pangan sektor peternakan dikatakan Mas Dhito tidak boleh sampai lumpuh. Sebagaimana pernah terjadi saat wabah PMK hingga pemerintah daerah harus melakukan penutupan pasar hewan. Untuk itu, ketersediaan vaksin harus selalu terjaga untuk mencegah terjadinya wabah penyakit pada hewan ternak.
Kemudian, tak kalah penting melihat potensi peternakan sapi di Kabupaten Kediri dan adanya kontes tahunan nantinya diharapkan dapat menarik minat munculnya para peternak-peternak baru.

"Sektor peternakan ini tidak melulu orang yang bergerak di bidang peternakan tapi bisa dilakukan secara otodidak atau yang punya kemampuan sungguh-sungguh. Ulet dan telaten kata kuncinya," terangnya. (adv)
