JATIMTIMES - Jumlah korban meninggal dunia dalam perayaan kemenangan Timnas Meksiko di Piala Dunia 2026 kembali bertambah. Otoritas setempat melaporkan total empat orang tewas setelah jutaan suporter memadati jalanan untuk merayakan keberhasilan El Tri melaju ke babak 16 besar.

Dilansir AFP, Kamis (2/7/2026), korban terbaru merupakan seorang pria berusia 30 tahun yang meninggal akibat krisis epilepsi. Sebelumnya, tiga orang lainnya dilaporkan kehilangan nyawa karena mengalami sesak napas saat terjebak di tengah kerumunan massa.

Tiga korban tersebut terdiri atas seorang perempuan berusia 19 tahun, seorang pria berusia 44 tahun, serta seorang perempuan berusia 48 tahun.

Presiden Meksiko Claudia Sheinbaum turut menyampaikan belasungkawa kepada keluarga para korban. "Solidaritas dan dukungan kami (untuk keluarga para korban)," ujar Sheinbaum.

Perayaan besar-besaran berlangsung setelah Meksiko menundukkan Ekuador dengan skor 2-0 pada laga babak 32 besar Piala Dunia 2026. Hasil tersebut memastikan langkah Meksiko ke babak 16 besar dan memicu euforia di berbagai penjuru negeri.

Di Mexico City, lebih dari satu juta orang turun ke jalan untuk merayakan kemenangan tersebut. Salah satu titik yang dipadati massa berada di kawasan Angel of Independence dan sepanjang Paseo de la Reforma, yang memang dijadikan pusat perayaan oleh pemerintah setempat.

Menurut otoritas kesehatan Mexico City, petugas medis sempat memberikan pertolongan darurat kepada sejumlah orang yang ditemukan tidak sadarkan diri di beberapa lokasi sekitar kawasan perayaan.

Korban pria berusia 44 tahun dan perempuan berusia 19 tahun dinyatakan meninggal dunia setelah upaya resusitasi tidak berhasil. Sementara korban perempuan sebelumnya yang berusia 48 tahun sempat dilarikan ke rumah sakit usai mengalami asfiksia atau kekurangan oksigen, namun nyawanya tidak tertolong.

Pemerintah setempat sebelumnya telah menutup akses kendaraan di sekitar Paseo de la Reforma guna mengakomodasi membludaknya warga yang merayakan kemenangan tim nasional. Insiden ini menjadi catatan kelam di balik euforia keberhasilan Meksiko melangkah ke fase gugur Piala Dunia 2026.
