JATIMTIMES - Piala Dunia 2026 resmi bergulir. Tim tuan rumah Meksiko membuka turnamen dengan kemenangan 2-0 atas Afrika Selatan pada laga perdana Grup A yang berlangsung di Estadio Azteca, Mexico City, Jumat (12/6/2026) dini hari WIB.

Kemenangan ini mengantar El Tri ke puncak klasemen sementara grup A dengan raihan tiga poin. Di sisi lain, Afrika Selatan harus puas menghuni posisi terbawah setelah gagal meraih angka pada pertandingan pertama.

Laga pembuka Piala Dunia edisi 2026 tersebut berlangsung panas. Tak hanya menghadirkan dua gol, pertandingan juga diwarnai tiga kartu merah yang membuat duel Meksiko kontra Afrika Selatan menjadi sorotan.

Julian Quinones menjadi pemain pertama yang mencatatkan namanya di papan skor Piala Dunia 2026. Penyerang berusia 29 tahun itu membawa Meksiko unggul cepat pada menit kesembilan.

Bermain di depan pendukung sendiri, Meksiko tampil dominan sejak awal pertandingan. El Tri lebih banyak menguasai permainan dan terus menekan pertahanan Afrika Selatan.

Afrika Selatan kesulitan mengembangkan permainan sepanjang babak pertama. Tim berjuluk Bafana Bafana itu hanya sesekali melancarkan serangan balik dan lebih banyak bertahan menghadapi gempuran tuan rumah.

Meksiko sebenarnya berpeluang menggandakan keunggulan sebelum turun minum. Namun, upaya Quinones pada menit ke-42 masih membentur tiang gawang.

Memasuki babak kedua, petaka datang bagi Afrika Selatan. Yaya Sithole harus meninggalkan lapangan lebih cepat usai menerima kartu merah pada menit ke-50 akibat pelanggaran keras. Pengusiran itu sekaligus menjadi kartu merah pertama di Piala Dunia 2026. 

Unggul jumlah pemain dimanfaatkan dengan baik oleh Meksiko. Raul Jimenez berhasil memperbesar keunggulan menjadi 2-0 lewat sundulan memanfaatkan umpan Roberto Alvarado.

Gol tersebut terasa spesial bagi Jimenez. Penyerang veteran itu tampak emosional dan menitikkan air mata setelah mencetak gol penting untuk negaranya di ajang Piala Dunia. 

Situasi Afrika Selatan semakin sulit ketika Themba Zwane ikut diganjar kartu merah pada menit ke-84. Bermain dengan sembilan pemain membuat mereka tak mampu membendung tekanan Meksiko.

Meski demikian, laga tetap ditutup dengan drama. Bek Meksiko Cesar Montes juga mendapat kartu merah pada masa injury time sehingga El Tri mengakhiri pertandingan dengan 10 pemain.

Secara statistik, Meksiko memang tampil lebih dominan. Mereka menguasai jalannya pertandingan dengan persentase penguasaan bola mencapai sekitar 62 persen. Sementara Afrika Selatan hanya 38 persen. El Tri juga mencatatkan 16 percobaan tembakan, jauh lebih banyak dibanding tiga tembakan milik lawannya. 

Kemenangan ini menjadi modal bagi Meksiko untuk melangkah ke fase gugur. Apalagi, hanya juara grup dan runner-up yang berhak lolos otomatis ke babak berikutnya.
