Banyak orang bahkan mengoleksi berbagai warna untuk menyesuaikan dengan gaya makeup yang berbeda. Namun, di balik fungsinya tersebut, masih banyak yang kurang memperhatikan masa pakai lipstik.
Padahal, penggunaan lipstik yang sudah melewati batas waktu pemakaian dapat memicu gangguan pada bibir, mulai dari iritasi hingga reaksi alergi. Karena itu, penting untuk mengenali perubahan pada produk sebagai tanda bahwa lipstik sudah tidak layak digunakan.

Dermatolog Shilpi Khetarpal mengatakan bahwa perubahan pada kondisi produk kosmetik tidak boleh dianggap sepele. “Perubahan pada tekstur, aroma, warna, serta performa produk menjadi tanda bahwa produk kosmetik sudah kedaluwarsa dan sebaiknya dibuang,” kata Shilpi.
Secara umum, lipstik hanya aman digunakan dalam kurun waktu 12 hingga 24 bulan setelah dibuka. Setelah itu, kualitas produk akan menurun dan berisiko terkontaminasi.
Salah satu tanda paling umum adalah perubahan bau. Lipstik yang masih bagus biasanya memiliki aroma khas, sementara produk yang sudah rusak cenderung mengeluarkan bau tengik atau asam.
“Kondisi ini terjadi akibat oksidasi kandungan minyak di dalam lipstik,” tambah Shilpi.
Selain itu, tekstur lipstik bisa berubah drastis. Jika saat diaplikasikan terasa kering, kasar, atau bahkan menggumpal, ini menandakan formulanya sudah mengalami penurunan kualitas. Tak hanya mengganggu kenyamanan, perubahan ini juga membuat hasil riasan menjadi tidak merata.
Perubahan warna juga harus diwaspadai. Lipstik yang mulai memudar atau tidak lagi sesuai dengan warna aslinya menunjukkan bahwa pigmen di dalamnya telah rusak. “Meski terlihat sepele, ini bisa memengaruhi hasil akhir makeup secara keseluruhan,” imbuh Shilpi.

Tanda yang paling serius adalah munculnya bintik-bintik atau jamur di permukaan lipstik. Jika ditemukan bercak berwarna putih, abu-abu, atau kehijauan, produk tersebut sebaiknya langsung dibuang karena berisiko tinggi bagi kesehatan.
Tak kalah penting, reaksi pada bibir setelah pemakaian juga menjadi indikator utama. Lipstik yang sudah terkontaminasi dapat memicu rasa gatal, perih, hingga kemerahan. Dalam kondisi ini, penggunaan harus segera dihentikan.
“Produk makeup lama bisa menjadi tempat bakteri berkembang biak karena pengawetnya tidak lagi bekerja optimal setelah melewati masa kedaluwarsa,” tutup Shilpi.
