JATIMTIMES - Seleksi jalur mandiri menjadi salah satu kesempatan yang banyak dimanfaatkan calon mahasiswa untuk masuk perguruan tinggi impian setelah pengumuman jalur nasional. Namun, memilih jurusan pada jalur ini tidak bisa dilakukan secara sembarangan.

Persaingan yang ketat, sistem seleksi yang berbeda di setiap kampus, hingga biaya pendidikan yang bervariasi menjadi faktor penting yang perlu dipertimbangkan. Karena itu, calon mahasiswa perlu menyusun strategi agar peluang diterima semakin besar.

Berbeda dengan SNBT atau jalur seleksi nasional lainnya, jalur mandiri memiliki mekanisme yang ditentukan masing-masing perguruan tinggi. Ada kampus yang menggunakan nilai UTBK sebagai dasar seleksi, ada yang mempertimbangkan nilai rapor, dan ada pula yang mengadakan ujian mandiri secara khusus.

Agar tidak salah menentukan pilihan, berikut beberapa strategi memilih jurusan kuliah jalur mandiri yang bisa diterapkan.

1. Pelajari Daya Tampung dan Tingkat Persaingan Jurusan

Langkah pertama yang perlu dilakukan adalah mencari informasi mengenai daya tampung program studi dan jumlah peminat pada tahun-tahun sebelumnya.

Data tersebut umumnya tersedia melalui laman resmi penerimaan mahasiswa baru perguruan tinggi. Dengan mengetahui tingkat keketatan sebuah jurusan, calon mahasiswa dapat memperkirakan peluang diterima secara lebih realistis.

Tidak ada salahnya menempatkan jurusan impian sebagai pilihan utama. Namun, sebaiknya siapkan pula pilihan alternatif dengan tingkat persaingan yang lebih rendah agar kesempatan lolos tetap terbuka.

2. Sesuaikan Pilihan dengan Kemampuan Akademik

Memilih jurusan idealnya tidak hanya berdasarkan tren atau popularitas. Kemampuan akademik juga perlu menjadi pertimbangan utama.

Bagi kampus yang menggunakan nilai UTBK sebagai syarat seleksi, peserta dapat membandingkan skor yang dimiliki dengan rata-rata nilai yang biasanya diterima pada program studi tujuan.

Dengan menyesuaikan pilihan terhadap kemampuan yang dimiliki, peluang untuk diterima akan menjadi lebih besar dibandingkan memaksakan diri pada jurusan dengan persaingan sangat ketat.

3. Pertimbangkan Jurusan Alternatif yang Masih Satu Bidang

Banyak calon mahasiswa hanya fokus pada satu jurusan populer dan mengabaikan pilihan lain yang sebenarnya memiliki prospek cerah.

Padahal, terdapat banyak program studi yang masih berada dalam rumpun ilmu yang sama dan menawarkan peluang karier yang menjanjikan.

Sebagai contoh, calon mahasiswa yang tertarik pada bidang komunikasi tidak harus terpaku pada Jurusan Ilmu Komunikasi. Pilihan seperti Hubungan Internasional, Sastra, Administrasi Publik, atau program studi sosial lainnya juga dapat menjadi alternatif yang menarik.

4. Hitung Kemampuan Finansial Sejak Awal

Selain mempertimbangkan aspek akademik, faktor biaya kuliah juga tidak boleh diabaikan.

Beberapa perguruan tinggi menerapkan biaya tambahan berupa dana pengembangan institusi atau uang pangkal di luar Uang Kuliah Tunggal (UKT). Karena itu, penting bagi calon mahasiswa untuk berdiskusi dengan keluarga mengenai kemampuan finansial sebelum menentukan pilihan.

Perencanaan yang matang akan membantu menghindari kendala biaya di tengah proses perkuliahan nanti.

5. Manfaatkan Kesempatan Mendaftar di Beberapa Kampus

Strategi yang juga banyak dilakukan calon mahasiswa adalah mengikuti seleksi jalur mandiri di lebih dari satu perguruan tinggi.

Mendaftar di beberapa kampus, baik perguruan tinggi negeri maupun swasta, dapat meningkatkan peluang diterima. Semakin banyak kesempatan yang dicoba, semakin besar pula kemungkinan memperoleh kursi di perguruan tinggi yang diinginkan.

Meski demikian, pastikan setiap pilihan tetap disesuaikan dengan minat, kemampuan akademik, dan kondisi keuangan.

Pada akhirnya, memilih jurusan kuliah jalur mandiri bukan sekadar mengejar program studi populer atau kampus ternama. Keputusan tersebut perlu didasarkan pada pertimbangan yang matang, mulai dari peluang masuk, kemampuan diri, hingga kesiapan finansial.

Dengan strategi yang tepat dan perencanaan yang realistis, calon mahasiswa dapat menentukan pilihan yang sesuai sekaligus memperbesar peluang untuk diterima di perguruan tinggi tujuan.
